Research and Curation Assistant
The Language Policy & Innovation Institute (LPI) is seeking volunteer research and curation assistants to support the development of LPI’s curated collections and broader field-scanning work.
This role is a good fit for individuals who are interested in helping identify timely developments, practical resources, and thought-provoking materials related to language access, multilingual governance, equitable public communication, and responsible language technology. Volunteers will help surface information, references, and emerging developments that may enrich LPI’s public-facing work and support stronger thematic collections over time.
This may include tracking relevant publications, reports, guidance materials, institutional developments, public-sector examples, tools, and other resources connected to LPI’s areas of focus. Volunteers may also help review materials for relevance, organize findings around specific themes, and contribute to the development of curated collections that support learning, reflection, and practical engagement with current issues in the field.
The expected commitment is at least 2 hours per week, with flexibility based on availability and project needs. We deeply appreciate volunteer support and welcome individuals who are curious, thoughtful, and interested in helping LPI stay informed, relevant, and responsive to developments shaping multilingual public life.
This role reports directly to the Executive Director. We also welcome volunteers who bring fresh ideas, strong research instincts, and a collaborative spirit to help strengthen this growing area of LPI’s work.
Ideal candidates may have an interest or background in public policy, language access, communications, education, law, nonprofit work, public administration, research, technology, or related fields, but no single background is required. Strong reading, organization, synthesis, and judgment skills are especially valuable in this role.
For some applicants, this volunteer opportunity may also serve as a pathway to a more structured internship experience as LPI grows and formal learning opportunities develop.
Please submit your current resume through the application form. In place of a formal cover letter, we ask that you include a brief statement of interest describing why this opportunity interests you, what you hope to contribute, and how it connects to your learning, experience, or professional goals.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the closing date, and we encourage interested applicants to apply early.
