LPI’s impact is rooted in strengthening the systems that shape how public institutions communicate with the public. We support long-term, structural change so that language access becomes more consistent, effective, and sustainable across jurisdictions and sectors.
We aim to help public institutions build stronger policies, clearer standards, better implementation frameworks, and more capable workforces. By doing so, we seek to improve how governments and other public-serving bodies communicate with residents across languages, modalities, and technologies.
Our work is designed to contribute to:
- Stronger public institutions by helping organizations move from fragmented or reactive practices toward coordinated systems for language access and effective public communication
- Greater access and participation by reducing barriers that prevent people from understanding information, accessing services, exercising rights, and participating fully in public life
- More responsible technology adoption by supporting approaches to language technology that prioritize accuracy, accessibility, accountability, data protection, and equity
- Workforce and field development by helping build the professional pathways, training opportunities, and interdisciplinary leadership needed to strengthen language access and multilingual governance over time
- Knowledge, standards, and continuity by providing research, frameworks, and practical guidance that can help the field progress even as political conditions, funding environments, and technologies change
Over time, LPI seeks to become a trusted institutional resource for language access, multilingual governance, and responsible language technology in public life.
Support from individuals, institutions, and partners helps make this work possible. If you would like to help LPI grow its impact, we invite you to explore our Donate and Volunteer pages.
